Toys For Tots
On Nov 25th the Phillip K Dorn Detachment, Marine Corps League kicked off its support of the annual Toys For Tots campaign. Again this year, Toys For Tots in Central New Jersey is under the very able leadership of Gy Sgt Jack Santelli of the Marine Corps Reserve Center in Red Bank,NJ. Gunny Santelli is hopeful that this year’s collection will approach the 2010 results of over 30,000 toys and $41,000 in cash donations. Dorn Marines will be collecting toys and cash gifts at the Monmouth Mall each weekend while the campaign is underway. Dorn Marines will also be helping with organizing and sorting of toys at the Red Bank Reserve Center.

 End of Summer Picnic

On September 8th, the Dorn Detachment held its annual End of Summer Picnic. As in prior years the venue was American Legion Post 338 in Leonardo, NJ.  Eddie Martinez, the Dorn Junior Vice Commandant served as Chairman of the Picnic Committee and did his usual great job in planning and managing the event. Eddie also handled the grill and turned out a delicious array of burgers, dogs and sausages.  While the weather was threatening early in the day, the skies cleared and we enjoyed a beautiful late summer afternoon.  About 40 Dorn Marines, family members and guests attended. Included as special guests were spouses of Marine Frank McManus and Marine Fred Steffens, Dorn Detachment members who passed away during the past year.  All in attendance had a “kick back and relax “afternoon which is the goal for the event.
